  • Medals and Awards

Medals are awarded based on the accomplishments of a pilot. Each medal has a concrete set of circumstances which will lead to its being awarded. Any pilot may recommend another for an award. The recommendation should specify the award to be received and detail the actions of the recommended pilot. Recommendations may also come from outside of the 352nd Fighter Group. The recommendation is reviewed by the squadron's Executive Officer. If the Executive Officer feels the recommendation is worthy of further review, the recommendation is brought before the Group Commander. If approved, the pilot is recognized before the entire Fighter Group. Much of the information on this page is courtesy of the Warbirds 352ndVFG, used with their permission.

    Medal of Honor
Action above and beyond the call of duty, risking life where otherwise life would not be in risk, and exceptionally aiding the cause in doing so. Action should clearly merit the Medal of Honor in any pilots eyes, and this award can only be earned in an organized scenario.
    Air Force Cross
Exceptionally valorous actions, but not deserving of a Medal of Honor, may be awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. The Distinguished Service Cross may only be earned in an organized scenario with very rare and extraordinary exceptions.

    Silver Star
Awarded for gallantry in action, the Silver Star is more commonly awarded in organized scenarios but may also be earned in formal missions.

    Legion of Merit
Awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct or superior service in either a combat or non-combat role.

    Distinguished Flying Cross
Awarded for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight; the highest award commonly awarded outside of scenarios.

    Bronze Star
Awarded for heroic actions involving the risk of life; commonly earned in scenarios.

    Meritorious Service Medal
Awarded for non-combat achievement in the service of the 352nd Fighter Group.

    Air Medal
Awarded for heroic actions involving the risk of life; similar to the Bronze Star Medal, but earned outside of organized scenarios.

    Aerial Achievement Medal
Awarded for sustained meritorious achievement in flight.

    Air Force Commendation Medal
Awarded for actions not involving the direct risk of life but otherwise earning the Air Medal.

    National Defense Medal
Awarded for incontestable non-combat achievement in the service of the combat flight sim community at large.

    Combat Readiness Medal
Awarded for continuous readiness for combat as shown by participation in 352nd Fighter Group events.
    D-Day Medal
Awarded for participation in the assault on the mainland of France on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
    Distinguished Unit Citation
Awarded when a unit displays such gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission as to set it apart from and above other units participating in the same campaign. The degree of heroism required is the same that which would warrant award of the Distinguished Service Cross to an individual.
    Oak Leaf Cluster
Added to a medal for each additional time it is received.
    Valor V
Added to a medal when it has been received five times.
    Confirmed Kill
Each member of the 352nd FG has their personal best streak kept track of. A Confirmed Kill is awarded for each kill scored during their best streak.
